Position:Home>Performing Arts> Can anyone think of a good acoustic song that could be played as a duet with two

Question:or just in general, a song that would sound good with two female harmonies. think along the lines of tegan and sara, aly and aj, etc...? anything indie or alternative, something that isnt too hard. we really don't want to play old classic stuff, so please don't suggest leaving on a jet plane or the beatles. we're not that good, lol.

'Anthem' by Leonard Cohen.

I am a recent convert to Leonard Cohen - I know, I know, but he really is great, and this song has real teeth. You should watch the tribute concert movie 'I'm Your Man' if you don't believe me. His two backing singers, Julie Christensen and Perla Batalla, perform this song as a duet and it sent chills down my spine.

In general, Leonard Cohen is underrated. His early stuff is really haunting, his mid-period stuff is, well, always interesting at least, and his later stuff is sometimes really dry and funny as well as being everything else. Also, because he's more of a poet than a musician (although his songs are always spot-on musically), his stuff isn't hard to play. Or to sing.

on the road again by some old country man

Wanna sound good, right? Don't want it to be hard, right? Suggest you get guitar tabs/music from Godspell and check out the song "By My Side" - it is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l not hard and would be great in harmony.

I have asked myself this question many a time except I have been helping other people out. At christmas I was asked to help produce a song for a concert that two 15 year old girls wanted to do, I had a massive thought shower! I came up with things such as Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer; 1000 miles by that girl who sings it. But the ones that really stud out were the covers of Along the WatchTower by Jimi Hendrix...I know what you're thinking - thats too rocky. Well, we managed to use the same chords with one person one classical guitar and the other on an epiphone acoustic, and the vocals, we changed the phrasing of the lyrical lines and put in repeats a lot! The harmony was easy to figure out too! So in the end we came up with a single duet acoustic performance - no drums, no bass. Got a hell of a lot of respect for it too! Good Luck(if you choose this song - it is well recomended!)

You could do both parts of Pigs on the Wing by Pink Floyd, The Silent Man by Dream Theater, Caught Up by The Fall of Troy, and there is a ton of Radiohead that could feature just guitar and vocals.

well.. depends on the situation?
