i think you should write your own songs if you're starting your own band. lots of stuff are copyrighted and can cost you money JUST because you're publicaly performing it. it's a different story if it's for a talent show or something, but to promote your band? not a good idea.

Bands like tegan and sara and meg and dia are an all chick bands go look them up they have wonderful songs

cool go for it look up songs from other artists (girl bands) like teagan and sara they have really good songss

You have been misinformend about having to PAY to perform copyrighted material. You dont have to. Also, the others were right, you do not have a band, as you have no instruments. What you have is a vocal group.
As for song ideas, check out the movie Dream girls. Great songs with great harmonies.
