Position:Home>Performing Arts> What songs should I sing at the coffee house?

Question:I've been asked to do a solo (just me and my accoustic guitar) at a coffee house next week. I have a 2 song slot. Which songs should I sing? I will announce and dedicate them to the person with the best answer.

save you by matthew perryman jones is good.

Hey there delilah - plain white t's

a thousand miles - vanessa carlton

bizarre love traingle - frente

no one - alicia keys

bubbly - colbie caillat

wonderwall - oasis (my first choice)

Just a random thought that popped into my head when I saw your question..sing "Que Sera" by Doris Day. =P

Isn't that an acoustic song?

Stop making it appear as though you have some huge repertoire of songs, and just play the only two that you know.

Bad Fish - Sublime
Plush - Stone Temple Pilots
Creep - STP
Jolene- Cake
Trains - Porcupine Tree
Good Riddance (Time of your life) -Green Day
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Yesterday - Beatles
Everlong- Foo Fighters

There are so many songs out there.. just find one that you feel comfortable singing..and make it your own

As "sung" by Mike Meyers, in "So I Married an Axe-Murderer."

HARRIET, HARRIET HARD-HEARTED
HARBINGER OF HAGGIS
BEAUTIFUL, BEMUSED BELLICOSE BUTCHER
UNTRUST-ING
UNKNOW-ING
UNLOV-ING
HE WANTS YOU BACK HE SCREAMS INTO
THE NIGHT AIR LIKE A FIREMAN GOING
TO A WINDOW THAT HAS NO FIRE EXCEPT
THE PASSION OF HIS HEART
I AM LONELY,
IT'S REALLY HARD
THIS POEM SUCKS

Okay, that was a little goofy. Your Q just reminded me of that movie, that's all. Other ideas:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Coffee Shop
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4FCCxp39...
I am just a lousy burn
Searching for the unknown crumb
The crumb the crumb
Something or someone to come
Come along illuminate my lust
Combust
Confucius might have been confused
And Buddha might have blown a fuse
Jooze the muse

Meet me at the coffee shop
We can dance like Iggy Pop
Another go in the parking lot
Frewak the cheek on your hotspot

Back and forth my body?1s jerking
Will to thrill will not stop working
Work and work
I?1ll take you on a honeymoon
Jumping on a bed in a hotel room
The room the groom

Meet me at the coffee shop
We can dance like Iggy Pop
Another go in the parking lot
Frewak the cheek on your hotspot

It'd be interesting to hear it acoustically.

Even More Ideas:
air traffic - shooting star
the red jumpsuit apparatus - your guardian angel
the used - the taste of ink
3 doors down - here without you
madina lake - escape from here
skillet - whispers in the dark
skillet - comatose

Oh, Summertime by Sublime - probably the best suggestion I have.

Sing songs you already know well and play flawlessly from memory.

One week before the gig is NOT the time to be learning and memorizing new material. You're more likely to forget chord changes or lyrics and screw up, and then you'll come off looking unprepared and amateurish -- which you will be. Don't even think about getting up on stage with a music stand and tab sheets or sheet music -- that's just not done. REAL folk musicians perform from memory and/or by ear.

Imagine - Lennon
Me and Mr Jones - Counting Crows
Lyin' Eyes - Eagles

I would sing whatever songs you really like to sing and think would be good for that atmosphere, something really mellow, or whatever songs come to your mind and stay there.

But for suggestions, would you like to sing
Edelweiss from The Sound of Music ?
Or something Viennese, like Wien, Wien, nur du allein....? although that probably would be new to you
* it would be nice to find a song with a guitar interlude, so you could just play the music, and then re-join it later

Whatever you sing, have a lovely evening
