Position:Home>Performing Arts> How to get rid of nerves?

Question:I'm performing a song i wrote at our school's bimonthly talent show tonight. It's my first performance...and I'm worried that i'll choke on stage. What are some things that i could do prior to the actual performance to relax?

Thanks in advance!

Working out before hand helps a lot (punching bag, running). but don't get too tire from it and allow time to settle down and take a hot and cold shower (switch back and forth form really cold to really hot, this gets your circulation going). Make sure you're not rushed beforehand. Mainly think positive, tell your self that you’re going to do great etc. Don't think what you're saying is cheesy, convince your self that you have amazing talent and deserve to be in the show. Don't even think about yourself choking on stage, that's a negative thought, we don't want those. and do practice in front of someone that wont lie to you and will give good feed back. but if something does happen don't stop for a second, make it look like you meant to do that. unless like.... well okay, you know how when someone falls down the stairs and quickly gets right back up and pretends that no one saw them when clearly everyone did. I can't stand when people do that. So instead they should laugh at them selves. so if something extreme does happen don't be fake or be like omg and freak out but turn it into a less serious situation by laughing it off. Depending on the song you could throw in a cleaver line that goes along with what just happened. Don’t give excuses or explained what happen b/c the audience just witnessed. but the audience does want to know how you feel about the mistake. Hey, you know what? That wont happen because you have practiced hours on end and know what your doing. hey being nervous actually stimulates the brain to work better.

think +!

good luck, you'll do great!

Just tell yourself you can do it and remember that if you let yourself get nervous, it will hurt your performance. I used to get nerves too, but after a while it gets to be no big deal. just do your best!

Good luck!

Do some deep breathing excersises, but not too many or you'll pass out. Um, try putting a heating pad of your back and close your eyes and relax on a bed or couch. And if you're really nervous, drink some hot tea and imagine the performance going marvelous! If you imagine it that way, you can try your hardest to live up to it.

Ull do fine at the Trunk of Funk

Also i bring my ipod and rock out to my favorite song too keep my mind off of it. Always take deep breaths, and remember that you will do awesome!
