Making a brass insterment look its best. SHINY!!!!?

Question:I have a really ugly curved bell baritone. Its dented, and peeling in some places. How can I make it look better. AKA how do I make it really shiney!!! I have a jazz festival coming up and its so embaressing having such a fugly insterment.

In the Army, I used "Brasso" to polish brass. Now I use toothpaste. Just a dab on a damp cloth and wipe it off after polishing with another damp cloth. Don't know why, but it really works for most things.
