Get a teacher...do not try to teach yourself from books or the internet. That is a complete waste of time and will get you nowhere.
Buy a proper piano or at least a full size keyboard with weighted keys. Nothing else will do if you are serious.

Well, if you don't have a piano, buy an inexpensive keyboard. (even one from target, infact there are some ones at target where the buttons light up in order and teach you how to play a song)

Also, if you can afford and fit it in to your schedual, lessons would be great.

if you go to youtube and look up "piano lessons" or something along those lines, there is a guy who teaches piano via video.
its free, and he really helps. go for it :]

hope this helped!

well the keys are their in front of you the rest is practice - you don't need a teacher to teach you how to play the piano - tackle different peices of music that get harder in increments. Start with classical music - this is the only way to start any music (i'm a singer who enjoys gospel/ R&B but I had to learn italian arias first to strengthen my voice (in your case hands)).

So start with Bach - he is considered by many to be the founder of many of the musical systems used by musicians today. He has written many simple excercises in order to familiarise you with various hand shapes and chords.

Also I would recommend Czerny's school of velocity in order to get some muscle and agility into those fingers. You can get a teacher but do not pay for 1 hour lessons if half an hour ones are available etc because he is only really there to tell u WHAT to learn and practice as opposed to actually teaching you it. As I say .... my voice coach has to teach me how to position my self for sining and my clarinet teacher had to teach me where all the notes were and how to slide between them with ease.... but in piano the notes are just buttons to press...

hope this helps. x

I highly recommend you get a teacher to teach you the basics. I recommend atleast 6 mo. of weekly lessons before doing it all on your own.
Look on amazon for instructional cds or videos.

The best way to learn is to get a private teacher. People who teach themselves will inevitably teach themselves bad habits, which just further regress their piano playing ability; the bad habits take time to reverse and delay progress. A private teacher who can show you how to do everything correctly is the best way to go. Also, make sure it isn't someone who is only teaching in group lessons. You will want a lot of personal attention.
