Position:Home>Performing Arts> Is this a good electric violin????

Question:Let's see, where to start......um, I have been playing violin for about a year, and I would say I have become pretty good at it and am advancing quickly. I am planning on buying an electric violin, for three reasons:

1. It's louder than a normal violin, so people can hear it better, obviously.
2. It can make electric sounds like an electric guitar, which would be really cool.

Side question: Electric violins CAN make electric sounds, not just acoustic sounds, right?? I just want to make sure.

3. I think it would be a great step up and/or alternative to my acoustic violin. (When I say alternative, I mean just at certain times. When I buy my electric violin, I plan to keep my acoustic violin as well)

I plan on buying the violin from Shar Music, a wonderful company which I have bought from before, and which I'm sure many of you string players are familiar with. This is the violin:

It's decent. It's good for a beginning player, and especially a nice first electric violin. While the colors are fun, I'm a bet skeptical of the spruce/maple combonation, but once again, for a beginner, not too bad.

Yeah. The violin should make 'electric' sounds. Just plug that baby into the amp and hit overdrive!

You mighnt also consider getting a pocket amp so you can more around while you play.

And... I have a brazilwood bow. I love mine, but they're not the top of the line. You can get a much better bow, carbon bows are particularly nice, if you're willing to spend a couple hundred on it.

Here's another site that you mighnt find interesting:

I saw the desighner's band play live a couple of months ago. The sound was fabulous. I would definately consider one off of his line.

Sean Mackin (of yellowcard) also plays an electric violin. It sounds great live. I've been searching forever to find out what kind he uses, but it just doesn't seem to be out there.

personally, i wouldn't buy a 349 dollar eviolin (electric violin).
for 700 dollars, you can get a wood violins stringray sv-4 entry level eviolin. (entry level being pretty cheap and a good price).
if you get an effects pedal they can make different sounds.
