Absolutely, yes yes yes. And, not just good, but excellent!

Your question is like asking, is it possible for someone with a not very toned body to get in shape? Since you are already grown up, is it too late to start going to the gym? Is there hope for me? Can I get that sexy six-pack?!?!

The answer is yes, of course (barring physical issues). It takes hard work, dedication, expert guidance... and time. Lots and lots of time.

Now for the success story. I went to college with a guy who LITERALLY could not match pitch our freshman year. It was horrible. He was so bad we didn't even talk about it. It was sad. He was out-singing everyone in our department by the end of our junior year (except me, of course *wink*). He lived in the practice room, but he did it. I was there, I watched it, I know it can be done. I've seen it since and encouraged it in my students.

It can be done, and you can do it.

Find a GOOD teacher (interview them, ask around, get references from former and present students and other teachers, do NOT just go with the first teacher you find). Commit yourself to practicing 45 - 90 minutes every day for at least 2 years. After 2 years, re-evaluate, see how far you've come. You'll know pretty quickly if this is for you. (Yes, 2 years is quick. 2 years is nothing in terms of studying music. In piano, you'd just be a late beginner after 2 years. It is the same in voice, or any instrument.) I bet you surprise yourself... my friend was 18 when he started, too.

Go you! I'm excited for you at the beginning of a wonderful, scary, rewarding journey.

they actually have classes that will teach u how to raise ur voice or something. idk wut they do but my cousin used to go to them

well...yea. That's how people get to be better singers, is with lessons and practicing. Figure out what you want to sing, and take lessons. It's a lot of hard work....just so you know.

Yes you can practice singing and become better! your voice should be set at 18...but if you don't have talent at all, dont even worry about it!
PS: all performars warm up befor singing, and they all practice!

oh trust me, you can get better.

your vocal cords are just like muscles. Work them out, and they become more flexible. First, determine your range (how high and low you can sing), and practice scales. join a choir at school, or take voice lessons. Or just sing in the shower! With enough practice and training, you'd be surprised at how good you can get!

Check out the bio of grammy-winning vocal wiz Bobby McFerrin. He was an instrumentalist-arranger before he decided that voice was his instrument--and then he set out to increase his vocal range (he gets five octaves) and to develop vocal abilities that others never dreamed of.

He did that as an adult.

So if you are dreaming of it, hire yourself a good vocal coach and do the exercises recommended, practice reasonably and often, and educate yourself about all aspects of music.

We need more good vocalists, it's the one thing computer generation can't imitate :-)
