I certainly hope it isn't too late! I'm 49 and just a beginner too.

Learn to strum the chords and learn to read the notes so you can play those as well. Find an easy book that teaches you to read music. It will make your experience a lot more fulfilling. It certainly is working for me.

Good Luck!

It's never too late. You can always learn. Gutiar is great for all ages.

You should learn to finger pick with your thumb picking the top three(heaviest) strings, and your first three fingers playing the bottom three (lightest)
That's the most common way, and you'll want to be able to do it.

Just practice a lot, work hard, and don't be afraid to mess around and try your own thing. A guitarrist is nothing without his or her own style.

No, it is never to late. Try and learn how to use all your fingers (fingerpicking). This will help you to play in all sorts of styles.

Learn open chords first and then bar chords. A teacher would be a big help .

Buy yourself a tuner if you do not already have one. They cost about $20 from the music shop.
This will do for now :

its not to late to learn. but if you are teaching yourself get a book. if you use your fingers, you hold your hand a certain way. I dont think you play with all you fingers (ok you don't strum with all your fingers) it sounds like you should start with a pick. I am teaching myself to play using a book.

I started when I was 18 and now I'm nearly 51.

Had a lifetime of playing out and in the studios and still play most every day. Still love it to death.

Welcome aboard!
