Position:Home>Performing Arts> What is the very lowest note on a B,flat Clarinet?

Question:The lowest playable note is a low E or Eb with a trigger. However the lowest possible note is one octave lower than the lowest Bb you can play. This is because the fundamental harmonic of a Bb instrument is at its quarter wavelength. The key of the instrument is named after the lowest note that can be played. Any note lower than a quarter wavelength cannot form standing waves, therefore making it impossible to create a clear tone. The frequency measured around that note is close to 116.54 Hz. Note this is almost physically impossible since you would be trying to reconstruct the full with a quarter running through a very strict and bound material and the rest of it in open air. Most likely a mechanical device would achieve that sound.

I think that it's either a G or an E or an A.

I think that the lowest note is the low E. I am a clarinetist and this is the lowest note I am aware of.

The highest note is the triple-octave E.

The lowest note is an E, unless you have en extra Eb key. Put all of your fingers down, and put your left pinky on the key to the right, it should pop out a little bit. Or, put your right pinky on the bottom right key; bottom left if you're looking at the clarinet. The highest note can be a few notes, because anything above a triple octave A can be played a few ways.
