Position:Home>Performing Arts> Audition for Broadway?

Question:I have seen an audition for the touring cast of the broadway production of West Side Story. I have acted a lot at school and done a lot of singing (weddings, shows, theatre). However, I can dance (and remember steps) but have not taken any dance lessons. does this matter? I would audition for the role of Maria.

Also, I think this would be a problem, I am not American. and therefore dont have the accent. i could put one on, though. Would that be possible?

If you can't dance at least passably, your odds of getting into West Side Story as any role other than maybe Officer Krupke are slim.

The accent won't matter, since Maria after all does not have a general American accent, but a Puerto Rican. So can you fake one of those accents?

Open auditions are the one way that an amateur can break into the pros, but be ready for rejection--generally you have to get turned away hundreds of times before you get your break.

You never know until you try. Just go for it,and do the best you can. Even if you don't get this one, you will get experience for your next audition

Go for it... even if you are refused you will gain valuable experience for the next audition... and you will start growing layers of skin, because by the time you finally do get a part, you will have a very thick skin.
