It sounds like you should take lessons. I've been playing for 25 years, and I can tell you that a good teacher helps. Also, there are some things that just take time. How long have you been playing? If you are as advanced as you say, solos should be no problem. No shortcut for paying your dues.

Well if you learn something difficult easily, then it really wasn't very difficult at all. Metronomes can help. I do recommend trying to master parts of the piece/solo whatever, that way you will at least be making progress. But unfortunately practicing a lot is the best method. I'm surprised an intermediate-advanced guitarist wouldn't have figured that out yet.

The only way to do what you are asking is to play with someone and have them show you how to do what you want to do. Then practice it like crazy. That is the fastest way to learn something difficult.

Other than that you will have to look at music/tab and listen to the piece and play along. Playing along with a video too would help.

Either way you are going to have to have an excellent ear and skills and that only comes through playing and playing and listening and practicing.

A metronome will help with your timing but you need the skills and the ear to pick up whatever you want to play.

Yeah reality is a biotch sometimes. Good luck.
