Position:Home>Performing Arts> Where can I buy a starter acoustic electric guitar for my 7 year old son? Also e

Question:I need something around $200. Also does anyone have any advice on if he should even play acoustic first or electric he wants to learn both are they basically the same thing can I buy him both and he switch back and forth? Or is one better to start off with?
Lastly I presumed it would be better for him to have a electric acoustic or should I just buy him a acoustic? He is a little nerd he likes country music and rock as well that is why he wants both. Any advice would be helpful thatnks!

you'll appreciate having him learn first on acoustic.

there are some acoustic guitars that are also electric, that is, they have a built-in pick up so that the guitar can be plugged into an amplifier.

now an acoustic guitar is usually thick: it must be in order to have an air column to resonate and create a decent volume (get your physics textbook out). most electrics have a thin body since such is not needed. the string and pickups work as a small electric generator to produce an electrical signal which is sent to an external amplifier (so add that to your budget). you can practice on an electric guitar without an amplifier, but the direct sound won't be as loud as with an acoustic guitar. that might be a selling point to the parent: buy an electric and promise to get an amplifier later (after he can play a little bit). as the previous answer noted, an electric will be more exciting, especially to a young kid, so that might help him stick with it. whichever he starts with, he'll eventually want both.

here's a site you can do some "looking"
www.musiciansfriend.com

Yes acoustic is better to start off with

you can check out your local guitar center

or music pawn shop

this site is where i get all my guitars

www.musiciansfriend.com

brand by seagull and carl robellie are soem good starter ones
that retain the value over time

email me if you want to get him guitar lessons

over youtube there free

and some other little girl im teaching is learning alot

He should deffinetly start off on acoustic! it is harder than electiric, but you get used to it faster. The Guitar Center has all your guitar needs, including a guitar starter pack (includes guitar, case, picks, tuner) for 150. I highly recomend the Guitar Center! Service is great!

Definitely go for the acoustic electric. I teach guitar to kids, and getting a good guitar to learn on is important.

DO NOT buy a little kid junk-o learners guitar...they really tend to have thicker necks and be harder to play in general.

I recommend going to your local guitar store with your son and picking out something that fits his body, possibly a full sized guitar with a thinner body and neck. The people at the stores are usually are very helpful.

Also, DO NOT buy from anywhere that is not a guitar store, such a costco or toys r us....they are less expensive, but it shows!!

i really suggest starting with an electric, like a squier strat kit. NOT A FENDER STRATOCASTER, squier is made by fender but they are cheaper, and are really nice. I had one for my first. I was 10 years older than your sun, it's nice your helping him with his interests, my parents didn't really help with my musical carrer because they don't know anything about stringed insturments, but electric would be a better choice, because it is easy to make loud, distortion is fun, and it's more exiting. Accoustic is more boring, but is an art in its own way, I'm thinking about getting one now. The kit can be gotted at guitar center for around 100 $. If you fell like you can spend more money, i suggest you get a new strap. Eventually, he will want a new amp, but the squ. 10 watt is a great practice amp with great overdrive distortion capabilities. I still use it for practicing by myself. It was a great investment, even though I now have an Ibanez and a les paul kit ready to be assembled.
Rock on man! (you might want to get him an atreyu cd to go with the axe, just to man him up a little bit from the country)
