I am a percussionist. I have been playing for about 5 years. My favorite thing about it is there is always new thing to learn. I have to learn rudiments for marching band and scales on the mallet percussion instruments. I also have to be able to read treble clef for mallet percussion and bass clef for tympani. I have to learn so many things it never gets old.

Flute/Piccolo are my primary. I started playing flute in 5th grade and piccolo in 8th grade. I'm now out of college with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Flute Performance. That being said, I've played the flute now for 16 years and piccolo for 13 years.

My favorite thing about playing the instrument is the music I make with it and sharing it with others. Nothing beats the rush of performing well on stage, expressing emotions that cannot be explained with words, and totally engaging the audience. It is truely a language that can be shared with anyone, no matter where in the world you are.

I play a lot of stringed instruments - guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, harp, lute, bouzouki etc, but the one I've been playing longest is guitar - over 45 years. I love the guitar for its versatility and its easy portability. I can play rock'n'roll one day, folk the next and play hymns on Sundays
Hope this helps

well, PLAYED (wish i never stopped, but i had some issues and had too)

3 years- the viola, great beautiful instrument, very soulful. i can still play but havent picked one up in almost 2 years =[

I've been playing guitar for about ten years. I just find it a very relaxing activity. It helps me unwind.

I play the clarinet and I've played the bass clarinet before. Playing the clarinet helps me unwind and get in touch with a more creative side of myself, I side I can't express through drawing and other stuff that I do. It also introduced me to the amazing world of marching band. Marching is beyond cool and I love it soooooo much. I have been playing since the 6th grade and Im in the 11th grade now.

I am a guitar player.

I can hardly begin to tell you why I love the guitar. It is an endlessly fascinating instrument; it crops up in nearly all world cultures, or something like it does anyway. Acoustically, it is supremely delicate and yet capable of communicating great emotional intensity; electrically, it's potentially the coolest, ballsiest, filthiest instrument mankind has invented.

The endless conundrum of six strings/five fingers never ceases to amaze and perplex me. The range of music that has been recorded on guitar is incredible, from John Dowland and Bach to the Beatles and Black Sabbath and Sonic Youth and Jim Hall and Jimi Hendrix and Sonny Sharrock and Thin Lizzy and Dinosaur Jr and Ed Bickert backing up Rosemary Clooney and Frank Zappa and Pat Metheny and Derek Bailey.

I loved stringed, fretted instruments; I also play mandolin and ukulele, but nothing comes close to the range and power and versatility of the guitar.

I have been playing guitar for 21 years, since 1987, but before then I was a bass guitarist for three years.

I'm a violinist, and I've been playing for 25+ years.

I love the sound of the violin the most, it's very passionate and oh, classy sounding I guess. I love it when you really know a piece well, and you can really get into it, and put tons of emotion in it.

Plus it's a great conversation piece. Walk through a crowded airport with your violin case and you'll ALWAYS have people ask about it. ('course, you've got the usual idiots who ask "Wow, is that a violin or do you have a machine gun in there?" Hah hah, REALLY original dude... But most people ask much nicer questions :)

I play trumpet and piano. But trumpet is my main.
I dunno what my favorite thing is...I love everything about it.
I played piano 5 years, and trumpet for 8.
