I don't get transposing; What is the Bb scale on an oboe?

Question:I've recently switched to oboe from clarinet and I feel really stupid for asking this question but what is the Bb scale on the oboe? What notes?
Does it start on the C like the clarinet does or the Bb because it's a non-transposing instrument?

Dont feel stupid, its normal. I do know that oboe is in the same key as flute which means that it is C. The Clarinet is in Bb so anything you play on clarinet will already be in the correct key for the given scale.

This means that if someone tells you to play a Bb scale on clarinet you start on a C because that is the concert pitch to a piano of your instrument.

If someone tells you to play a Bb on Oboe you start on a Bb because you are already in C.

Major scales hace the pattern of Whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half.
This means that you start on Bb and go up a whole step to C and so on.
The scale would be a Bb,C,D,Eb,F,G,A,Bb

Every note in the Bb major scale is reduced two half-steps from its C-major cousin. The number of half steps between each note in any major scale is 2-2-1-2-2-2-1

So you construct the Bb-major scale as:

Bb, C, D, Eb, F, G, A, Bb

I have no idea how this would be be played on the oboe

The oboe is a concert-pitch (meaning non-transposing) instrument - like the flute, piano, strings, and bass clef band instruments are, also. So the Bb scale on oboe starts and ends on Bb.

Chuck is right...but about that "don't get transposing" part:
To get it, you need to realize that e-f and b-c is only a half step, and understand the structure of the scale.

A major scale is WWHWWWH.
So if you want Db major, you start on Db (w)Eb (w)F (h) Gb (NOT F#...many reasons related to intonation theory, but lets just say for now that you need all flats or all sharps, and one of each letter-name) (W) Ab (w)Bb(w)C(h) Db again.

For a Bb scale on the oboe you would start on a Bb flat. The scale goes Bb, C, D, Eb, F, G, A, Bb. I know I had to memorize this scale on the oboe for juries.
