Position:Home>Performing Arts> How to be an opera singer, im 18 its my dream!?

Question:Good advice from your first answer. If you can, get into a performance programme, however, if you are just starting out.... read on...

The best advice (having been a singer all my life) is to find a good vocal teacher or coach, depending on your level. Go to the local university or conservatory and ask about teachers.

Ask your teacher for guidance in developing your voice and repertoire. Join a church choir and or a local operetta company like a Gilbert and Sullivan group. You will learn so much by actually singing with others and develop your own preferences. Sacred music is a fundamental training ground for singers. Most opera singers do perform in oratoria and large requiem masses such as the Berlioz Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, Handel's Messiah etc.

Once you are part of a musical society or church choir, talk to the soloists and find out who they study with - listen and learn.

Listen, listen and listen. Train your ear; it is as important or more important than your voice.

Good luck.

Go to college and major in vocal performance.

Feh Opera singers are bastards

Go into acting instead and perform in musicals

I am an actor myself and I really hate opera singers having been in a show with them. They are selfish, arrogant, and big-headed. I hated having to perfomr in a show with then so please do the world a favor and don't be an opera singer instead be a musical actress
