Some only count 12. The reason is because of enharmonic scales. Example: F#/Gb, B/Cb, and C#/Db. They have different note names, but are the same pitches. Around the circle of fifths it goes: 1)C, 2)G, 3)D, 4)A, 5)E, 6)B, 7)Gb 8)F# 9)Db 10)C# 11)Ab 12)G# 13)Eb 14)Bb 15)F. Gb/F#, Db/C#, and Ab/G# are actually the same notes on the piano (this is called "enharmonic," one note having two names). Thus though there are only 12 actual major scales, some people say there are 15 because three of them go by two different names. Here you go, good luck!
