Question:Are there any good pop or modern opera songs that are sung in the bass range? I love to sing, and I have a very low voice. I have a pretty good range but am more comfortable as a bass. Any suggestions?

Bass voice? What a rare gift. Your voice doesn't have a lengthy rep with pop muisc, but if you are thinking popular music think Barry White and Lou Rawls material. Unfortunately, there aren't any popular bass singers in pop now. Perhaps you can change that and promote your voice professionally with original material.

As far as opera, there is more for you. Don Pasquale's opera's lead is a bass. Any of DOn's arias is great in your voice. Sarastro from The Magic Flute, the Bass solos in Handel's Messiah, Porgy from Porgy and Bess could be sung by a Bass, although it is usually sung by a Baritone. Any spirituals like Deep River sounds incredible in a bass voice. Check out this book on Amazon.com or www.sheetmusic.com: The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology - Volume 3 - Baritone/Bass. It as some of everything in it for your voice type.

I would also suggest going into a music store, and looking through different books for low voice/bass singers. Sight read and hum through a couple of them, and go from there. Your voice is so rare, that I would ask a good vocal coach their opinion of what kind of bass voice you are, so that you can have materials catered to your specific voice. If you are a good bass voice, you will be employed as a singer often. Too bad I can't hear you. Your voice type is a treat to ear.
