Question:

Guitar Practice?

I'm in the 8th grade, so most days i get home around $ or 4:30, and then have to do homework. I play the violin and am learning guitar. I want to become very good. How much time should I spend practicing on weekdays, and on weekends? (By the way I like being in bed by 9:30 on school nights, so dont say to have practice for 5 hours every day because I need time for homework!)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I'm in my first year of medical school and also trying to teach myself the guitar; I started several months ago but just recently picked it up again. In general, it's better to do short practice sessions often than long practice sessions sporadically, but since you already play an instrument you probably already know that. As far as guitar goes, I've found that I get the most good out of my practicing when I work on it at least half an hour at a time; if it's a song I'm interested in I've done as much as an hour and a half every other day. I skip the in between days because after that long my fingers start killing me and I feel like they need that much time off to heal and form callouses before my next session. Hope that helps! Unfortunently if you want to be REALLY good, 5 hours is what I'd suggest.

I play between 3 and 6 hours every weekday, and like 9 or 10 on weekends.
