He currently owns an accoustic. Plays Beatles, Coldplay, Tragically Hip, REM, etc. And budget is a factor. I hear that Ibanez would be a good choice, but need specifics PLEASE!

Click guitars, there is a semi-hollow option along with price ranges and brands. Even if your don't buy from them it will give you some ideas.
I think there is an Ibanez Artcore for $370-something there.
