Question:

How do you play low C and B on Alto Sax?

And B flat...
I can finger it but when I start on low C it kinda pulsates like wa wa wa wa... (But if I start on low D then switch to C It comes out nicely.

Low B and Bflat just kinda don't come out.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The most important thing to remember when trying to obtain the lower notes of the register on an Alto or Soprano Sax is to relax your mouth. Alot of beginners tend to tense their mouths while trying to obtain deep notes, doing this will cause a false octave jump and make the lower note more difficult to reach and give you that "wa-wa" sound. The same answer for low B and Bb respectively.
If your horn is an older model and you have not had the pad's checked, it may be time for new register pads to ensure that you have no leaks. If you can't afford to take the sax in to a repair facility, go into a dark room with your sax and a flashlight. Finger Low C, B, and Bb and shine the flashlight into the bell and look for light shining through the pads that are closed. If you see light, you need to have the pads replaced on the lower register.
