How Often do Oboes Play in the Alto Clef?

I'm starting to learn the oboe and I'm worried about how often it plays in the alto clef because all I know is treble and bass.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I've been a band director for over 20 yrs. and have never seen and alto clef part for oboe. To my knowledge, oboes NEVER play in alto clef. They play in treble clef only. Very, very rarely in bass clef. I have played oboe since eighth grade, minored in college, and played in two union scale orchestras. Never saw any alto clef

I think bassoon sometimes plays in tenor clef, but even the english horn parts I played were written in treble clef- you'll be fine!! OBOE is AWESOME :) You're in luck. Unless a composer is being particularly sadistic, oboes never play in the alto clef. Only treble clef.
