. A monologue is a term used to describe a character who is talking for a long stretch with no interruptions from other people speaking. Some monologues are a only paragraph long, others last for pages and can take 45 minutes of stage time or more. It's a monologue ("mono" meaning "one") as opposed to a dialogue, where two (or more) people are speaking.

A soliloquy is one character talking with no other characters onstage, so presumably he or she is talking to himself, the audience, or God.
