chessmaster...you're wrong...agents don't cost a penny. Good for you! You know that you don't pay a single penny (unless they get you paid work, then yes they get a percentage) and you know you have to *gasp* work for it. I don't think it matters how much you've done, but what it is and how well. Tons of school shows are okay, but if you've got school and community/semi-professional (or even professional?) theatre and great training, then it's time to worry. You shouldn't think about agents too early in the game, you become more vulnerable. Work up a name and network yourself. You shouldn't have to look for agents, if you have it, they will come. Don't fall for scams. Always check someone online to see if they are reputable. Talk with your performing friends about local agents in the area and invite one to your performance. Don't make meetings for money trades. If I were you, I would wait even still and get a little more experience and all the knowledge you can on theatre/acting (books, workshops, classes, you can find them in your phonebook, online, etc) and then ask one to come. It sometimes takes quite a long time to find one that's right for you. Best of luck, Brianna! If you are a talent, agentsw will find you. But most even talented people have to be very lucky. I was with an actress, best I ever saw, she won lots of awards
and her career stalled. Why? She was beautiful, it wasn't that. Who knows? Luck I guess. Right place, right time.
Good luck. Get a nice p;ic and resume
and insist on meeting your potential agent. He might remember you and mention you for a part, even a small one can get you noticed. Good luck, As you probably already know it's all about the money if you have enough you can get one pretty quickly !!!!!!!!! Don't go for cheap....remember you get what you pay for....I don't think it's as much as what you have on your resume it's what talent that you have, and believe me you have a lot of competition out there, you have to have some great or unique talent. As for how long....I guess that according to how ambitious you are...the more hours that you put in looking for one the sooner you'll find one, and only go to reputable agents, check with the better business bureau before making a commitment. things of this sort don't happen over night, you have to have patience, good luck to you...I hope that you make it !!!!!!!!!!
