Question:

Customize guitar?

ok i have a fender squire strat and i want to put a black pick guard on it instead of the white one and change all 3 pick ups to invader ones... how much would this cost and where can i buy them?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Here is a site to get some ideas for pick-ups: I once found some DiMarzio PAF's (Patent Applied For; for Les Paul) p/u on clearance and paid half price. Look around before you commit.

At the bottom there is a black strat pick guard for $20.00

Here's some Seymour Duncan's for $12.00

Good luck. But read up on the product at their web-site before purchase. If you don't think you can install the p/u ask around your fellow guitar players. Some of my friends have done the work for free. I'm not sure what "invader" pups you're referring to, but Seymour Duncan Invaders are humbuckers, so you'll have some cutting and prepping to do to get them in place. Be aware also that SD Invaders really are powerful pups, and feedback can be an issue.

You'll be able to grab a black pick guard off eBay for not much money, maybe $10 - $20 for a used one. www.stewmac.com or allparts.com have Strat pickguards made for any pick-up combination and in a lot of colors - I think they're around $20. You may have to router out some wood to get the humbuckers to fit. Another option are the Hot Rail pickups - they're humbuckers that fit in the same space as the single coils. You can buy the parts you mentioned at any Guitar center. To replace a pick gaurd is relatively simple. First you remove any pieces holding your current pickgaurd on the guitar and then you unscrew the gaurd itself and remove it.

As far as the pickups go, you're gonna haveto take the pickgaurd off to replace the pickups, and it will still be hard.

I reccomend you pay a professional to do it.
