Question:

Drummers pls help?

do you think ludwig is a good brand? and in some bass drums there are holes in the front, does this affect the loudness, will it be louder than a covered one or no?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The truth is that almost every drum manufacturer today makes a great drum. With the technological advances that have come to be, it's almost hard not to. At least when it comes to high end gear. When you get to that point it's basically all preference as far as brand goes. But always remember that your choice of heads and tuning will make up at least 50% of the overall sound of the drum! And as for having the hole in the bass head. Sound travels through air, so when you allow more air to escape the drum it will be slightly louder and project a little more. But the real reason the hole is there is for microphones. It's called a mic port which is any easier way of micing in a live application if u don't have you're own mic's. There is also internal micing. the dw drums website has some info on that. Don't want to get too in depth but there ya go. Ludwig is a rare brand and may fetch a hefty tag. Solid craftsmanship. I believe a bass with a pre-cut hole is for sound projection. It's a matter of preference. pearl is the best
