Question:

What instrument is ideal for beginners?

It's been a life long dream of mine to learn to play a musical instrument. I want to start taking guitar lessons. Since there are surely musicians around here, can anyone tell me what instruments are ideal for beginners? Also, is the guitar difficult to progress on? I should add that I learned to play the recorder extremely well in grade school and I can read music fine. Thanks!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It all depends on what instrument you want to play. I'm not going to force you to play an instrument you'll lack interest in. Most of the time, the more interested you are in an instrument, the better you'll play.

There is pretty much no such thing as a "beginner" instrument - piano is classified as "beginner," but that's not what I started out with. I started with the trumpet. I liked how it sounded and how it looked. Therefore, I would do better on trumpet than piano.

No matter what instrument you start out with, you'll always start as a beginner. Two instruments are not the same. So, if you want to play guitar, start guitar! Don't play piano if you don't want to!

All in all, just go with your heart. Wouldn't you be a beginner no matter what you choose? So, pick something you like or think you will like so it will be more interesting and fun for you. i am personally a begginer ( meaning totally clueless ) but i am going to pick up the guitar because there are so many great resources on the internet. plus you are ahead of the curve since you can read music. i say try the guitar, or if you would like something else, my second option for an instrument , the saxophone just because it makes you stand out and it can make beautifull music. good luck Piano. I learned to play piano and just because of that I can now play over 15 instruments. I play guitar very well. All because of piano. learn piano! Piano is a great one to start with - if you have that as a basis for musical knowledge, it's much easier to pick up any other instrument. If you want to check out band instruments, clarinet is a good starter. It's very easy to start on, and you can switch between clarinet and most other woodwinds relatively easily if you want to pick up another one. Flute is a hard instrument to start on - the embouchure (mouth position) is tricky to get at the beginning. (And I'm a flute player!) Good luck with whichever one you choose! Piano. It is the basics for all instruments. Once you learn that, it will be MUCH EASIER to play any other instrument.
