When a guitar tuning requires the B string to be tuned to a D, do I tune up or down?

wouldn't tuning up to the D break the string?

I am trying to play "pink moon" and the tablature i've seen says
B string -> D
high E -> F#
I'm worried about breaking my strings by tuning up
