Question:

I can't concentrate when I play the piano because?

Because my parents either stand by me, ask me how I'm doing turn on a light, clap with it, try to talk to me, ask me to do something, sing with the music try to play with me turn down the volume, change the settings, press the pedals. I can't concentrate, and it annoys me I've told them, but NO they won't listen!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: That just really gives me a chuckle. Your parents sound so annoying. It's funny to think of, but I can understand why you wouldn't like it. That is the worst when you are trying to practice and concentrate and others are trying to get your attention.
My guess is, they are just really enthusiastic and eager about your progress and playing and they want to be a part of your talent. Maybe try to make a deal with them. Invite them in for 30 minutes. Ask them to stay and listen for a while. Keep them there for as much of the 30minute as you can, don't let them leave. "Oh wait, one more...don't leave yet, I want you to hear this one too." If they walk out, yell "Hey Mom/Dad are you comming back? I'm waiting." Let 'em be as annoying as they can be, tell them applause is appreciated once the piece is over. Then for the next 30 minutes, ask them to leave you to practice in silence. Tell them you really need to learn to recognize and work out some of the kinks on your own, then you can give them another improved mini concert tommorrow.
My guess is, as soon as you start requesting your parents to come in a listen a bunch, or as soon as they feel invited to do so, they may not be so eager. I don't know, try to laugh at their geekiness. If nothing else, definitly write this down, describe everything they do. Years later (and I do mean many years) you will be holding your gut laughing remembering this and telling them how annoying it was. While they may be laughing with their chins dropped in unbelief at how annoying they were.
*I do know one thing for sure: What ever you do, keep playing and practicing. In time your ability to concentrate and play will totally improve and you will be gratefull that you have the ability to use your piano playing to block out what ever may be bugging you at the time. I promise.
