Question:

How to sing with your soft palete?

Without going for singing lesson? Thanks =)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: When you sing. everything you do with your mouth affects your sound. Trained singers do many things with their body to get a better sound. When singing (especially with others) it is important to sing pure vowels. Many vowels are actually diphthongs ( more than one vowel sound). An example would be the word LIGHT. When singing this word you must start by singing LAH, conciously lifting the soft palete to enlarge the throat and dropping your jaw so you can get at least 2 fingers in your mouth vertically. When you end the word the EET sound should happen naturally. Liting the soft palate can be learned in several ways. My favorite is to think how what happens when you are surprised and go OH while breathing in. Do you feel the SP go up? If not, think of holding hot mashed potatoes in your mouth and breathing in to cool them off. Ultimately, you should always sing your vowels as purely as you can. For a choral sound if everyone thinks british they can usually achieve a pretty good sound. If you are a soloist, drop your jaw, and lift your SP w/out jutting your upper mouth forward. Then when singing your vowels, always sing on the first vowel sound and let the rest of the word LAH.........EET happen naturally as you end it. GOOD LUCK!!
