Should music be a required course in grades 6 to 8? Why of why not?

I am doing a persuasive essay on this topic and need help.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: For sure! I want to be brief but for sure this is a very subjective subject. Music is one of the oldest art forms and part of having an education is turning out well rounded individuals, and capable socialist. I think that the earlier a person becomes involved in singing, painting, sports, etc the more grounded s/he becomes with self and being around others. For example, I know of parents who have their little 4yr olds playing toddler football. The parent took notice early of the childs ability to be active and very thick skinned. The children seem to enjoy it. This particular expressive medium is being exposed to the child at one of the very ealist times of s/he life. Who knows where this will lead the child in adulthood.

Music can be looked at in a very similar manner especially due to the fact that everyone is not sport inclined if you will. Music can and doese interact with the left side of the brain when writing and playing.

As an Art Instructor who writes arts outreach programs for many differnt arts established venues I search ways to bring the painting/drawing and interaction together using music as a major tool. When given the opportunity to work with children six to eight years of age I notice that they respond better to the drawing excerises when seleced classical music is playing. I end up viewing these very loose, but creative marks with form. It's truly interesting.

Everyone needs an outlet and a way to express themselves and hopefully without offending others. Art therapy is a great example of how the arts can assist a participant in many ways.

A bit of research in MI, multiple Intelligence is highly persuasive as to how the arts (period) should be part of the early youth mental growth. I've said a lot more than may have been sought out, but I hope I've helped. Doing a little research, if you have not yet, in Art Therapy and MI can really help persuasition if researhed appropriatly

Good luck in your persuasive essay.
