Question:

Audition song???

I am 13 and doing a general audition in about a month and have yet to pick my song. I want something that has a wide range. I have a four octave range and am a soprano. I would like something that would have a bit of belting in it because that is what I love to do. I can only sing about 30 seconds of a song because I have 2 minutes and my monolouge runs long. I really need help, any ideas???

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Four octaves! Wow, that??s a huge range?? seeing as you are a belter, I would go for something that really shows off your powerful voice. In this case, I would stick to a pop or musical theatre song.

i know that when i want to blow people away, i usually pick a powerful pop ballad. Try these songs:
Whitney housten – I will always love you, the greatest love of all, I wanna dance with somebody, I have nothing (if I don??t have you)
ABBA - the winner takes it all
kelly Clarkson – pretty much any of her songs
stevie wonder would be very good for you to sing, as his songs are catchy, have a wide range, and many are very powerful. Try – superstition, lately, livin for the city, signed sealed delivered, ribbon in the sky,
aretha franklin –rescue me
John Farnham – comic conversation, burn for you

Or try a musical theatre song of similar nature:
When i look at you from scarlet pimpernel,
someone else's story from chess,
someone like you by frank wildhorn)
think of me from phantom of the opera.
I??ll know from guys and dolls
Defying gravity from wicked
God help the outcasts – the hunchback of notre dame

avoid these songs at all cost, as they are overdone and your assessors will NOT want to hear them:
i could have danced all night (my fair lady), all of the le miserble songs, part of your world from the little mermaid , a whole new world form Aladdin, when somebody loved me from toy story 2, hero by Mariah Carey, fallin by Alicia keys

Whatever you choose to sing, make sure it is age- appropriate. While it is ok to sing about love, do not choose a song about sex, or drugs. It is fine to sing most songs that were intended to be male. Good luck with your audition!
