I may not be original, but can point out some things. First, even the truly great performers have had butterflies. In fact, it can be a good stimulate. It probably indicates that you are dedicated and will be well prepared. When you are well prepared, whether for a speech (where I have had more experience) or singing (mine was karaoke), those butterflies will probably disappear. It is important to recognize that this is normal.

Making it to the finals. It is good that you have this goal. But I can see more in papers I have delivered (I am a complete amateur and untrained karaoke singer) the ultimate verdict is not in my or your hands. The judges will make their own determination, and not necessarily fairly. There will be more contests, see each one as a learning experience. If you go far GREAT, but if you don't just adjust for next time.

I am not competitve in karaoke and try to see it as fun. I have a few moments to be like my idols (Hank Snow, Frank Sinatra--see how old I am). In that way it is a chance to fantasize and have fun. Maybe you could see yourself as a singer you admire, and push some of those ol' butterflies away.

Good Luck and God Bless
