Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: -Basically, the whole band/orch/choir (w/e you're in) is going to meet either at the school or in the bus going to the performing site.
-All the schools meet at a general area (we had the cafeteria) where you can get settled in until you perform. You can warm-up. Don't horse-play, and if you do warm up, work only on the parts you need to brush up on, not the whole solo (my opinion-- there's a wee bit of competition at events like this)
-There are time schedules where your school is about to go. Your teacher will assign your time, or they're just going to decide who goes in on the spot. I was in band, so they had the woodwinds go to one judge, the brass to another, and the percussion to the other judge.
-Go inside, introduce yourself to the judge, say the name of your piece. Qeue your accompanist (if you have one) and start to play. Relax and keep your tempo. After, pause a little before saying your goodbyes. While you're playing, the judge has a critique sheet, commenting about your up/downsides. He/she also critiques your appearance and professionalism. In medium ensemble, the same thing happens, but your teacher introduces you (or a HS volunteer).
-After that, you wait until everyone finishes. After a period of time (I waited about 30 min or so), they post the results--you know, 1 to 5, 5 being the worst, 1 being the best. When everyone's done, you go home! You get your awards a couple of days after.
