Question:

Why do they make some bass guitars with 'passive' electronics?

Surley, active electronics are the best way to go? Passive basses are dull and lifeless by comparison?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I wouldn't limit the answer to price. Depending on your musical style, an active bass might be too punchy, requiring you to try and dull it down. Likewise, active bass does require maintenance (the battery) and has more chances for failure, so it's possible that a passive bass is more durable and less maintenance.

Although I'd have to agree with you, MOST of the time, passive pickups are generally more dull. However there are some passive pickups that are far more expensive and equally or more impressive than active. However, I don't have that kind of money. :)
