Question:

Is there a difference in sound between rosewood and ebony fittings on a violin?

For example, if one violin has rosewood fittings and another has ebony fittings, will there be a difference in sound? (This includes the fingerboard)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Ebony is a rose wood too. But ebony tends to shrink and crack a bit more than other rosewoods. It is a bit harder and more dense.
I personally love the look of ebony, however on an instrument would choose rosewood over ebony for stability.

Ebony would contribute to a little sharper sound and give a bit more sustain.
