Question:

Second soprano song audition?

I am a second soprano and have an audition with an arts school, where I plan to major in theatre. As a requirement of the audition I have to sing sixteen bars of a song, not pop, but, say, a song from a play on Broadway. There were several songs I was considering but they are all over done, and while I have a pretty wide range I would feel most comfortable singing second. "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" seemed to work pretty well although it is very overdone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" is a pop style of Broadway. If the school wants to hear something different then take a look at musicals that were produced during the "Golden Age" of Broadway (like King and I, Sound of Music, Kiss Me Kate, or Oklahoma). If you wanted to really stand out, you could do one of Irving Berlin's songs from Broadway such as "Suppertime" from "As Thousands Cheered" or something from "Annie Get Your Gun." Good luck on your audition!
