Why do bands bring recording engineers on tour?

Why do bands bring recording engineers on tour?

hey, i'm just starting out my recording arts degree and i have no idea why band bring engineers on tour with them? i thought engineers stayed in the studio. is it to do live recordings? or just to set the levels for the stage?
