Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Street jazz probably originated after the Civil War since there was a large amount of brass instruments left over from the bands in the war. People would hang outside playing these instruments in various styles. At some point, a coronetist name Buddy Bolden became known for being able play louder than anyone else, and the style that including this kind of soloing eventually became known as jazz.
