Question:

Bass lessons?

im a tuba/trumpet/piano/guitar player. i want to learn how to play the bass now. i am real good at music and at catching on on how to play new instruments, so i was wondering, instead of taking private lessons, do u think i would be able to just, get a bass book, rent a bass, and learn myself, or is there some things that i must have a teacher teach me?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Which bass are you talking about?

If it's the double bass, you need a teacher. Classical instruments emphasize a lot on technique. You should know.

If you're talking about the electric bass, then just get a bass. You may not even need a book if you're good enough. I myself have a firm grounding in the cello and some double bass experience, and it took me only one hour from the second I picked up the instrument to become a fully-fledged electric bassist. String background helps, and so does guitar.
