Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Go to your piano or a friend"s. The piano is split up by black keys in groups of three and two. Go to the group of two closest to the middle of the piano and hit the white key just above it. That's middle C. Sing a scale down from C with the piano until you're uncomfortable or start to sound bad. Write that note down as your lowest (To find the name of that note just go to middle C and go down each white key going from C to A and then from G to A. Any black key has two name, either __ sharp with __ being the white key below it and __ flat with __ being the white key above it)
Next go back to C and sing up the scale with the piano until you're uncomfortable or sound bad and write that down as your highest note. (Use the same method to find it's name but going from C to G and then A to G, and then A to G...)
To know how many octaves that is go to your lowest note and look at what colour it is and where it is in comparison to the two and three sets of black keys. Then go up the piano until you find another key that is in the same position. The space between that key and your lowest is an octave. Keep going up the piano counting how many time you see one of those notes until you reach your highest and that is your range in octaves
If that made no sense to you then just count the number of keys between your lowest and highest and divide that by eight.
OK I hope that all helps and makes sense. Bye Have fun
