Question:

New York Film and Video Fest?????

Have any of you heard of the New York Independent Film and Video Festival? Is it serious? Do filmmakers actually get to screen their films?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (NYIIFVF) is a film screening event in various American cities. It was founded in 1993 and says it has been recognized by the film and entertainment industry as one of the leading film events on the independent festival circuit. The festival hosts film, music and art events in Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles.

This festival has been very controversial due to reported high pressure sales tactics to filmmakers, exorbitant entry fees ($300 or more) and its lack of legitimate festival status amongst distributors and producers. Unlike the vast majority of film festivals, the NYIIFVF asks for entrants to give their name, phone number and e-mail address through the festival's website. The applicant is then contacted and solicited for a 300$ entry fee (most festivals charge 50$ or less). When the applicant seems wary of the unusually high fee, they are told they can do a "half-pay" of 150$. If the applicant consents, they are told at a later date that a "half-pay" is the cost to guarantee one's place in the festival, and must therefore pay another 150$.
