What exactly is it? What do you do in those classes?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Music theory is a study of how the "language" of music fits together. Think of it this way....In english class you learn how verbs, nouns, adverbs and so on fit together to make a grammatically correct sentence. Music theory is pretty much the same thing. You learn how notes and chords fit together to make a piece of music. You spend most of your time analyzing and writing phrases and entire pieces of music. I took music theory in college and it was one of my favorite classes.
