Question: Is it ok for a girl to like WW2!?
i am a HUGE WW2 buff!. Most of my friends make fun of me for that!. I am only 14, and i know lots about it!. I get kinda embarrassed when my friends talk about how nerdy i am about WW2!. Do you think it is ok to like world war two if i am a girl!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Absolutely!. I'm a "girl" (ok, a bit older than a girl) who has a degree in military history, served 15 years in the Army (several years as an historian), am third generation FEMALE military (my mother AND grandmother served in WWII) and specialize in aspects of WWII!. So yes, it's OK to like studying WWII!.
EDIT: If you like, I'd be happy to recommend some reading material for you -- especially if you indicate what areas really interest you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course It's okay!.

What are they interested in!. Twilight!? Boring already!.

How long will it be before they move onto the next big craze and for how long!.!.

WWII has more depth to it and covers all sorts of areas!. History, Inventions, politics, fashion and etc!.

You shouldn't be embarrassed!. They should be!. They seem to be shallow little crowd pleasers!. Content to follow the majority and hide in clonedom!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most certainly!. There is absolutely no reason why not!.

Women fought and died in that conflict just as much as men, although not necessarily in uniform!. They fought for your right, as a free person, to do anything you like to do, provided that you do nothing illegal or harmful to others!.

Some of the great historians, and historical writers, have been, and are, women!. You do what you like, it's your friends who are stupid!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why not !? I know a woman whose grandfather died in WWII!. Her mother was raised in the post-war era by her widowed grandmother!. So one can understand the climate in which she grew-up!. That lead the girl to read what she could find about WWII and to do research about her grandfather!. More and more through the years!. As a grown-up, she can tell you a lot about what happened 25 years before she was born!. I guess it would be natural for people with similar circumstances!.
I can't remember whom, but I quote some historic figure about WWII: "Let us remember, so that never it happens again"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Definetly its ok!. Everyone has their own likes!. Why do you think we have history teachers lol!? someone else likes it besides you, you shouldn't be embarrased!. While it might be different than what they like, its totally ok for you to like WW2, its your own opinion and if your friends really start to bug you then maybe theyre not your true friends!.
Hope i helped:)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes its great!. Women played just as much a part in the War as the men!. They produced ALL of the war material used to fight and some in the Russian army were even snipers!. Look at Lyudmila Pavlichenko!. I'm glad to see a woman taking an interest in this time period!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depends on what you mean by 'like'!. If you mean that you are fascinated with it, there's nothing wrong with that at all and it's perfectly fine for a girl to be interested in learning about WW2!. Many history teachers are in fact girls!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was too when I was your age! My interest then has helped me a lot in recent years, in History courses and when taking the SATs for World and US History!. Just ignore them, they'll be coming to you for help with their WWII homework soon enough!Www@QuestionHome@Com

yeah! i love learning about the past wars and the history behind it!. so its definitley ok!. and as for your friends, they dont appreciate the fascination of it =DWww@QuestionHome@Com

Of course it is okay!. I'm a girl and really into history!. Sometimes it is cool for girls to be into generally "boyish" things!. And it makes you sound smart, your friends are just jealous!Www@QuestionHome@Com

its fine!. i love wrestling not for the guys in tight shorts but because the violence!.i love football!. i get into more than my bf!. like what you like!. make sure everyone knows!. itWww@QuestionHome@Com

it's more than ok!. I love the WWII and have studied it quite a bit!. When your friends tease you just say hey i know why im not speaking german right now, do you!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

There's nothing wrong with finding a interest in a topic and learning as much as you can about it!. You'll be the one they come to when they fail their history exams!. Keep up the good work!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Gah, another example of sexism! You have every right to love whatever you want, your gender does NOTHING to affect this!. If you love WW2, by golly, LOVE WW2!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can't imagine why some one would put you down just because of your interests or fascinations!.

I was like that at your age, and I don't think I have improved much now!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Absolutely its alright!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

yeah it's ok!. I know an old grandma and old aunt who used to love it to death!. *_* It was hilarious!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course it is!. When I met my wife, she had more WWII movies than I did, and I'm a major WWII historian!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
