Hitler just used Jews as convenient whipping boys, but antisemitism goes back far, far longer!. In 333 AD (CE) the Roman Emperor Constantine gathered the Christian bishops of the known world, and had them hammer out what Christianity was, and what it's rules would be!.

One of the rules they came up with was "usury," the lending of money for profit or interest!. They said that Christians could never do that, so that left Jews to be the bankers of the Roman empire!. Usury continued to be banned until well into the 1600s, so all of Europe bankers were Jews!. To this day, many privately-owned banks are owned by jewish families!.

This, of course, is NOT offered to justify Hitler or the excesses of the Germans or the Nazis!. When poor Germans were suffering the effects of defeat from WW I, it was easy to point at rich Jewish families and say, "Look! They're still rich!" Anti-semitism has a long and deeply rooted history in Europe!. Hitler exploited this prejudice and used the Jewish people as a convenient scapegoat on which to blame Germany's humiliating defeat in WWI and subsequent economic turmoil in the 1920's!.

All through history, jews have been blamed and massacred, this is because they have been the minority and people have been looking to put the blame on somebody!. For instance, when the black death came to England, the King of england rounded up all the jews in England and burnt them all in York!.

Germany was in an economic rut!. Money was so useless, thousands of marks couldn't even buy you a loaf of bread, and for some reason, Jews weren't as affected!. Probably had better business or something, but Hitler needed someone to blame, someone that would rouse the public, focus their anger and get them on their feet again to recover!. After the collapse of the German empire after World War 1, Germany was plunged into an economic depression that was one of the worst in history!. Hitler saw a way out!.
