However, Wikipedia says nothing about French or German losses on July 1, 1916, so the total for the Battle of Somme on that day may be greater than in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945!. Notice that the figures for Stalingrad cover the entire battle!. The battle (of Somme) is best remembered for its first day, 1 July 1916, on which the British suffered 57,470 casualties, including 19,240 dead—the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army!.
