Football in many forms has been played from the 3rd century BC in China (cuju) to the Roman game of harpastum, which was more similar to rugby!. It seems the great British people did have a knack for codifying and officiating many different sports from the various corners of the world they expanded to!. But this doesn't quite reflect the ingenuity of the British people, just their success in organizing and structuring from their own history, their neighbor's history and those they found on the continents and countries they colonized!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh you arrogant British people!. Still totally pissed about 1776, are you!? Anyway, we invented baseball, you call it "rounders"!. (Lame name) You have soccer, yeah whatever, and the only reason why it is the world's most popular sport is that you HAD to stick your nose in other people's nations!. (The end result: You got your a$$es roundhouse kicked by several other nations!. USA! USA! USA!) So while you spending time recreational, trying to invent new sports!. We Americans, invented the lightbulb, the telephone, the steam engine, the mechanical reaper!.!.!.!.game set match!. Oh, I also think you invented tennis too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

cricket but not baseball

British are real funny!. Okay you people invented the world!. LMAO

Pre-historic Nordic People invented skiing to assist hunting, military technique, and as a practical transportation for the Nordic people and the Samis!. The oldest and most accurately documented evidence of skiing origins is found in modern day Norway and Sweden!. The earliest primitive carvings circa 5000 B!.C!. depicts a skier with one pole, located in Rodoy, an island located in the Nordland region of Norway!. The first primitive ski was found in a peat bog in Hoting, Sweden which dates back to 2500 or 4500 B!.C!.[1] [2]!. Joel Berglund reported in 2004 the discovery of a primitive ski, or "85cm long piece of wood", carbon tested by researchers in 1997 while excavating a Norse settlement located near Nanortalik, Greenland!. The primitive ski dated back to 1010, and is thought to be Greenland's oldest ski brought by Norsemen circa 980 A!.D!.[3]

AT Rambles rambles and rambles just to hear himself!.
AT: IS FULL OF SH_T, HE CLAIMS ENGLAND INVENTED GOD WHAT A WANKER!. First of all try to stay on subject!. Yet another great English past-time, change the subject when you are wrong!. Can you supply documentation of your claims!? They hold no value coming from you and are no better than our claims!. You English despise your neighbors when they seek independence yet embrace them when it serves the "Britain," you created!.
Many of the colonists that became the forgers of the Declaration of Independence for the USA were indeed Scots, Irish, English, and as they were the founding peoples of our great nation!. That is indeed the point!. They wanted out from the hold of tyranny of the crown!.
You are a fool when it comes to steroids!.
Check your own drug-abusing athletes before knocking others!.
Ivy League college students playing Soccer (Football) created American football!. Being playful they combined it with another sports (not created by English) Rugby!. This over time became American Football!.
Your Football (Soccer) was a game played by many ancient peoples the world over!. In some cases representing (actually using) the skull of an enemy warrior!. You people Imperilized the world stealing what they created and made it your own!. You people Imperilized the world forces others by penalty of death to comform and obey!. You can make onr claim for America (begging) then there room to argue just who attacked who first, with Iraq!.

You next will claim that it was the English that saved the world from the Nazi and Japanese fascism (WWI, WWII) and not the USA!.

The list goes on!. You are so arrogant and small!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The good ones, the ones that aren't just for idiots who like stats or for men who like to get closer to men at the weekend!.
The important point is, we invented ;
A) Football!. the worlds most popular sport (and no, I don't include fishing as a sport, it's a pass time)!. Football is god's own game, the beautiful game, it can be played anywhere by anyone, there are thousands of school yard variatons; three and in, mini world cup etc that allow just a couple of players to get a game, no expensive equipment, just a ball!. B) Cricket!. The worlds best game!. Although I'm a little less sure about the best nation on earth thing, but lets face it, there are worse!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ardnaid :- The American did not invent the telephone, Alexander Bell did (a Scot)!.
You did not invent the steam engine either it was invented in the 1690's by an English military engineer Thomas Savery!.

All your rocket technology came from the Germans from WW2!.

The computer was invented at Manchester university in England!.

Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee OM KBE FRS FREng FRSA (born 8 June 1955) a British computer scientist gave us the original idea of the internet which you are using here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We did NOT invent polo, or football, but did invent snooker, and billiards, but they are not "real" manly sports, we did invent welly throwing, and the missionary position, and exported syphilis to the world countries, that lacked it, and invented the concentration camp , during the Boer war, and taught the world how to wage war,( as a nation, we have a proud record for this one, in particular), as we have been involved in war actively for SIX HUNDRED YEARS, somewhere or other, in this world, ( except for six days, in 1968 ) we even fought a war over "Jenkins ear", once, what a proud achievement that was ! Oh what jolly sport!.!.!.!.
However we are good at sports that no one wants to play, (cricket is NOT a sport, just an excuse for T!.V!. executives to take a day off at the expense of some sponsor, or other), and it 's real value is to allow us to sleep while the "women" make the sandwiches, and teas!.!.!.!.
We did NOT invent rowing, as a sport, nor even skiing despite what most think, we had the original club and organization, , but we did not invent it!.!.!.
Oddly enough the Americans did not fare better, they too invented only sports that no one else wants, like gridiron football, ( mainly to keep the thugs off the street corners, and stop them frightening little, old, (fat), ladies, and they added some rules to the game we played, (as a matter of interest, ask a Yankee who were World Champions, before the first world war, at baseball, the answer !? "GREAT BRITAIN", NOT AMERICA, that's who), and it had bigger crowds than most cup finals for footie these days, as well!.!.!.but no body gets to play in their "world" series unless they go to court, like the Canadians had to, that shows the confidence America really has, in it's athletes, they are famous universally for not taking the high road or for good manners, ( see also, "golf" ), look at current baseball stars, playing in a league that will not even ban erythropoietin, as every sport elsewhere in the world has done, that makes a mockery of the "greats" of the game, and the records, and just look at the court cases in California over masking drugs, and performance enhancers, for the Yanks, no balls are taken home by winning, by the yanks, but plenty by them, when they do not want to play anymore!.!.!.!.!.!.
What makes them so arrogant, !? if their size of population was the guiding factor, in their wins, they would have six times the medals of some of the nations they face in the Olympics arena, this is clearly not so!.!.!.!.perhaps as a nation they are just toooo fat, perhaps !?!.!.!.!.!.!.
This is another sport we excel at, "Yankee" bashing!.!.!.!.and let's face it, we lead the world, and they can not understand why!.!.!.!.the answer is, we invented it, and they do not understand their own history, they think they won the war of independence for a start!.
P!.S!. does any one know why the Yahoo people constantly take down mail that is critical of America, or Americans, do they have an automated scan of all postings for deleting, if they refer to them as "Yankees" or certain words that trigger this censorship, !? sensitive little flowers, aren't they !?!.!.!.!.!.
PPS "ardnaid", you did not, invent the light bulb, it was first patented in England, by Joseph Swan of Newcastle upon Tyne, and is in the Museum there, the first functioning light bulb in the world, I sat opposite it, in it's glass case, for several years as a young man, and Eddison tried to fight this patent across the world, before admitting it was rightfully Swans work, and forming the Eddiswan light company, in partnership with Joseph Swan!.in fact Eddison missed his application by one day, for this patent, the cause was the fact that a young assistant had dropped the light bulb that had been made in his laboratory, and most people would have fired him for this, but Eddison, would not have this happen, he insisted that the same assistant was given the job, of carrying the next one made, his reason was the belief that the man understood it's importance, and was not likely to make the same mistake again, but someone else might, there is much to credit Eddison for, but he himself, admitted that Swan, could not have possibly known of his work, he also never claimed, during his life, that he alone, was responsible for this invention, in fact there are seventeen patents that were filed by other researchers for incandescent light bulbs, all of which would have worked, but were also filed as patent, too late!.!.!.!.Nor can you claim that the phone was an American invention, as some do, Alexander Graham Bell was a Scotsman, despite slanderous assertions from the Italians that the phone was invented by an Italian (Miuchi),and the idea stolen from him, there has never been any evidence of this, and A!.G!.Bell went through 140 court cases from others who made the same claim, 40 of these went as far as the supreme court, and all were forcefully rejected on the evidence, now the Italian supporters of Miuchi, have had the matter reopened in the supreme court, and sought to over turn this matter, since their is no heir left to defend him, (A!.G!.Bell), the case was decided in Miuchis favor, and a decent man slandered, how they can argue that this is the truth now, is beyond me, when the people and evidence was clear back then!.!.!.!.The steam engine was invented by Hero of Alexandria,(2,000, years ago, ), and made a functioning engine by James Watt, of Glasgow, Scotland, his great grandson is still alive, and a member of a local church, in Handsworth and Hockley, in Birmingham England, near me, and where Watt is interred in a crypt, where it was first put into production by the Soho foundry in Smethwick, where I live, ( it still exists to this day, ), as a foundry and the original steam engine too, also in a museum, its first task was to pump water from the local mines, its use for steam locomotion was at the "trials" in Rainhill, which the engines designed for rail use, was won by The Rocket,( the name of my local pub), when I lived in Killingworth, where Stephenson was a colliery engineer, as was his father, and my house was a hundred yards from this pithead, and Stephenson was the engineer who built this, his house the "Dial House" as it is known, is still there, and a hundred yards from my house in the other direction, from the pit at Killingworth, it too is a museum, and is in "Forest Hall" as the area is known now,( until fairly recently, it was still a private home)
That leaves the mechanical thresher, that you claim the Americans invented, sorry, but wrong again, mechanical threshers were in use in England before the pilgrims set out on their cruise to the "New World", ( and incidentally the Pilgrims did not land at Plymouth rock, it was twelve feet under water at the time they arrived, they landed in the bay, around the corner ! ) and steam ones before America had it's first trains running, and mechanical seed drills and cotton mills, our history shows a group of workers , Known as the "Luddites", tried to smash these, as they believed that they would lose their work as a result of their introduction to the factories there, this began the whole trade union history, and is referred to in Blake's hymn, ( and did those feet, in ancient times, walk upon England's mountains green, etc), finishing on the line those "dark satanic mills",even the current operation that Michael J Fox,had where brain cells were injected into his brain to still his tremors, for his condition, was reported on British television as being the first of it's kind in the world, and portrayed as an American triumph, it was not, it was developed in Smethwick neurosurgery hospital, at the end of my street !, this is now a housing estate, and the small graveyard, nearby, is the only testimony to it's passing, that remains,
I DO NOT MIND THE AMERICANS CLAIMS SO MUCH, AS THEIR MANNERS, IN THEIR ASSERTIONS, I LIVE THIS HISTORY EVERY DAY THAT I LEAVE THE HOUSE, IT IS ALL AROUND ME STILL, EVEN THE REMAINS OF TREVITHICK, NEWCOMEN , AND A HUNDRED OTHERS, I KNOW MY HISTORY, I JUST WISH THAT YOU LEARN YOURS, Starting with Jim, Bowie, (a Scot) , or Marshall Dillon, (a child of an Irishman, or Wells Fargo, (Scottish), or Pinkertons detectives (Scots) I could go on, to point out that the "Americans" did not "win" the war of independence, or that Ben Franklin and George Washington spoke with English accents, and the American cowboys, anything but an American one, it did not develop as any accent, until the late 1800's, and the people of America were represented in parliament in Britain, so the cry of "no taxation, without representation", was a lie, provided by a poor quality reporter, who started the whole mess that became Independence, or the main writer was a Scot, for the declaration of independence, (he also founded the French banking system) suffice it to say, that while you give little or no credit to others, they will see little merit in your nation!.!.!.!.
Lastly, the repeating rifle was also a Scots invention, descended from an Italian family and raised in Edinburgh, one "Henry Martini", ( a gun that is still in use to this day, and which I have had the privilege to shoot with), as was barbed wire, and the steam turbine engine, the Turbinia the first turbine driven ship in the world, built by one (Grubb Parsons, Newcastle, and another local pub of mine when I lived near the Fosseway, in Newcastle), and the tank, (Vickers Armstrong, also Newcastle), and the hovercraft, (Christopher Cockerel,) and the jet engine, Frank Whittle, later knighted for his work, it was passed onto your people during the war), and the cyclotron, the core of the radar and in every microwave in the world and the first functioning system ofWww@QuestionHome@Com
