Position:Home>History> What are some beliefs of the federalists. Anti federalists?

Question:hey! we just reviewed this in us history today!
well
anyways

federalists believed that a strong federal (national) government would best benefit america, by uniting the states
also, they did not want a Bill of Rights for America, since the states already each had their own bill
also, they believed that the government wouldnt be too powerful b/c of the check and balance program
They wanted the Constitution

the anti federalists believed that the states should have more power and that a Bill of Rights was needed to protect the people from an over powerful federal government
they basically wanted the Articles of Confederation

Ultimately the federalists wanted the Federal government to be more powerful - that it would have more jurisdiction over more issues.

Anti-federalists (states rights) want the states to have more rights and for the federal government do little other than defend the union.

Generally anti-federalists want to keep federal taxes low.

idk

federalists were for stronger national government (our federal government) while anti-federalists were more sympathetic to states' rights. federalists also favored loose-constructionism, or a looser interpretation of the Constitution. anti-federalists were for strict-constructionism. federalists believed that the powerful, influential, and rich should have political power and it would be good for the country. anti-federalists were less enthusiastic about this position, which they saw as aristocratic.

Finals time eh?

Get the Cliff Notes on the Federalist Papers by Hamilton and Madison.

Hint: Federalist want a strong federal government, while "anti-federalists" want strong state governments.
