Some took whatever english name they wanted, and some kept names in their native languages, and some (prolly including some of the ones you listed) used english translations of native names!. So someone who's name was "Ten Shells" in their native language might use the 'white' name "John Ten Shells"!. Over time, they were often but not always shortened, so his great grandson might be "Jason Shell"!.

also, a lot married with other races, so some have english-type surnames because they have some english ancestors!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, I have an Abernaki ancestor whose name was Martha Call!. Now that doesn't appear to Amerindian, but I am told that the phonetics are!. I also had one that I went crazy looking for!. The surname "Sandusky" I searched English and Polish names to no end,!.!.!.!. then I found that she used the name of her tribe as the surname!. A lot of the French did the same thing when they moved to the U!.S!.
