You have given some really good information but not a location , could you edit your question please and include the information. There is no draft registration card, so he probably enlisted. You'd have to contact the Military Personnel Center at the St. Louis National Archives to get a copy of his military service record. The alternative, if you know the name of the funeral home handling his burial, is to ask them for a copy of it. They would have run the report when he died so that they could get his military burial marker and a VFW Honor Guard for him. I would also suggest that you pull their death certificates, marriage license and birth records. Because the bulk of these records are less than 72 years old, they aren't able to be published on the internet. Privacy laws keep the records from being published until 72 years after the event. If you know the church they belonged to, you can contact the parish office and request copies of baptismal, marriage and burial records. You can also contact the Probate court in the county where they lived and get a copy of the last will and testiment. The local library will also have a copy of their obituaries on film and you can reprint it for under a quarter. When you get into the recent generations, you have to use the public records and church records to learn more about them. The rest of the information is protected to prevent identity theft and financial abuse of the elderly. To help Jan, re Sandy; could that have been Alexander? Or was Sandy his full name? |
